- Reconciling accounts
- Calculating payments

Competitive Minimum Qualifications
Interested candidates must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program (see below), or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Depending on qualifications, candidates may be required to serve a one-year traineeship that leads to an Employees’ Retirement System Examiner 1, SG-9 position.
70.1 Transfer
To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to Employees’ Retirement System Examiner 1, SG-9, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 7 or above.
To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to Employees’ Retirement System Examiner Trainee, equated to SG-6, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 6 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

Traineeship Salary Information:
The position may be filled at the Employees Retirement System Examiner Trainee equated to SG-6 ($36232), or full performance Employees Retirement System Examiner 1 SG-9 ($42641) based on the candidate’s education, experience, and previous state service. Salary is nonnegotiable.
Candidates hired at the trainee level will be advanced to the full performance Employees Retirement System Examiner 1 SG-9 following successful completion of the traineeship.
Duties
- Receive, process, and reconcile payments made to NYSLRS.
- Research and determine eligibility, retirement plans, retirement/post-retirement benefit projections/calculations, and service credit.
- Respond to telephone and written inquiries.
- Gather, compile, and prepare information/records for review.
- Check the accuracy of information, complete calculations, project service credit and contribution balances in the calculation of retirement and military service credit.
- Assist in the preparation of reports by gathering data, results and/or preparing simple charts.

- Ability to prepare, understand, and interpret written materials.
- Ability to use office equipment such as computers, photocopy equipment, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills both over the telephone and in-person.
- Ability to perform tasks accurately with attention to detail and within specific time frames.
