State Comptroller DiNapoli Releases School Audits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the following school district audits have been issued.

Akron Central School District – Financial Management (Erie County)

The district reported unrestricted fund balance that exceeded the statutory limit from 2014-15 through 2016-17 by an annual average of approximately $860,000. Unrestricted fund balance exceeded the statutory limit because the board and district officials consistently overestimated appropriations.

State Contract and Payment Actions in December

In December, the Office of the State Comptroller approved 1,733 contracts for state agencies and public authorities valued at $9.7 billion and approved more than 1.7 million payments worth more than $10.9 billion. The office rejected 147 contracts and related transactions valued at $190 million and nearly 2,200 payments valued at more than $9.4 million, primarily due to errors, improprieties or lack of documentation. More information on these contracts and payments is available at www.openbooknewyork.com.

Comptroller DiNapoli: 26 School Districts in Fiscal Stress

Although the same number of districts were designated in fiscal stress last year, many of the entities in this year’s list have changed. Only 12 were designated as stressed in both 2018 and 2017.
