Mohawk Valley Faces Challenges But Bright Spots Exist

New York's Mohawk Valley region faces economic challenges and population losses, but job increases in health care and some manufacturing sectors, and efforts to revitalize downtown districts are positive developments, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

State Comptroller DiNapoli and District Attorney Scarpino Announce Arrest in $60K Pension Payments

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced the arrest of Rochelle Rose for grand larceny in the second degree after she allegedly pocketed her deceased mother's pension totaling $60,285 to pay cellphone bills, a car loan, insurance and utility bills.

DiNapoli: Tax Cap at Two Percent for 2019

Property tax levy growth for local governments with fiscal years that close on Dec. 31 will be capped at 2 percent for the 2019 fiscal year, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This figure affects the tax cap calculations for all counties, towns, fire districts, 44 cities and 10 villages.

DiNapoli: State Missing Nearly $2.4 Million in Uncollected Tolls

The amount of unpaid tolls has risen since the expansion of cashless tolling by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and it is likely to increase. Even when uncollected tolls can be billed, law firms hired to collect outstanding tolls and fees have not been effective, an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli found.
