Comptroller DiNapoli Statement on the Passing of Alfred DelBello

When New Yorkers chose Al DelBello to represent them as the Mayor of Yonkers, as Westchester County Executive and as the state’s Lieutenant Governor, he returned their trust with dedication to public service that helped improve their lives. Over the years, I have been fortunate to have enjoyed his friendship and benefitted from his guidance. He always offered wise counsel and advice. Al will be missed.

DiNapoli Calls on Aetna to Disclose Corporate Political Spending

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today urged Aetna Inc. to report the corporate funds it spends on political campaigns and causes. DiNapoli’s shareholder request that Aetna fully disclose its political spending will be subject to a shareholders’ vote on Friday, May 15 at the Fortune 500 company’s annual meeting. DiNapoli is trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund, which holds 1,249,849 shares in Aetna, one of the largest insurance companies in the United States, valued at $135.6 million.

DiNapoli: Financial Settlements and Federal Aid Boosted State Revenue to $149 Billion in 2014-15

New York collected $149.1 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2014-15, an increase of $11.4 billion, or 8.3 percent, from the prior year, largely because of one-time financial settlements and a boost in federal aid, according to a report on the state’s year-end finances issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli: Job Creation Increases for IDA Projects

Projects supported by New York’s Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) produced nearly 36,000 additional jobs in 2014, an increase of 18 percent from the prior year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This is DiNapoli's ninth annual report examining the performance of the state's IDAs and how these entities work to attract, retain and expand businesses within their communities.

DiNapoli: Heroin, Opioid Overdose Death Rates Rose Faster in New York Than in Most States

Overdose deaths related to heroin and prescription opioid abuse reached record highs in New York state in 2014, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The overdose death rates in New York increased faster over the preceding decade than in nearly every other state for which data are available.

DiNapoli: Majority of Contracts with Not-For-Profit Organizations Still Approved Late

State agencies were late 61 percent of the time in approving contracts with not-for-profit providers (NFPs) last year, with half of all agencies reporting contracts as late as 90 to 100 percent of the time, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. In 2015, the state paid $129,824 in interest payments for late contracts.

DiNapoli: NYRA's Future Uncertain

The New York Racing Association’s (NYRA) traditional racing operations have generated deficits totaling $109 million over five years and management has yet to develop a formal plan to make these operations profitable, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Auditors also noted questionable expenses, which contributed to NYRA’s racing-related deficits.
