DiNapoli: State Tax Receipts and Spending Outpace Division of Budget's Projections Through December

State tax receipts totaled $85.8 billion through three quarters of the State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2025-26, $2.3 billion higher than estimates released in the Division of Budget’s (DOB) Mid-Year Update to the Enacted Budget Financial Plan. On a year-over-year basis, collections were $5.9 billion higher than those through December 2024, according to the monthly State Cash Report released by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli: Monterey Fire Department President Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Funds from the Department

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Schuyler County District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announced the arrest of Kelly S. Groves, the president and interim treasurer of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department, for allegedly stealing over $3,000 from the department. Groves, 49, of Beaver Dams, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree.

DiNapoli: Former Dannemora Official Charged With Falsifying Time Sheets Attempting to Beef Up Retirement Benefits for Some Correction Officers

The former mayor of the Village of Dannemora was charged with falsifying time sheets aiming to allow state correction officers to claim they worked as village employees to secure more generous benefits from the state retirement system, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Essex County District Attorney Michael P. Langey and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announced today. The defendant, Richard Scholl, faces charges of tampering with public records and falsifying business records.

New York State Comptroller DiNapoli and District Attorney Kindlon: Siblings Indicted for Stealing State Rent-Relief Funds

A pair of siblings have been arraigned on a sealed indictment for allegedly stealing $90,000 in Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) funds to which they were not entitled, New York Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announced today.

As part of the scheme, the defendants completed and filed an application containing false information with the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) to fraudulently obtain funding through the ERAP.

DiNapoli Urges New Yorkers to Spend Holiday Gift Cards

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend and register the gift cards they receive during the holidays to avoid losing track of their money. After five years of inactivity, retailers are required by law to turn unused gift card balances over to the State Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds (OUF), where the money can always be claimed. In 2025, DiNapoli’s office recovered more than $28 million in unused gift cards that New Yorkers can claim.

DiNapoli: Audit of NYC's CityFHEPS Program Reveals Weak Oversight and Rising Costs

An audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli of New York City’s largest housing voucher program found that weak oversight and administrative lapses are contributing to rising costs and placing some vulnerable families in unsafe housing. The program, known as the City Fighting Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement (CityFHEPS) is overseen by the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS), and it is designed to help low-income New Yorkers avoid homelessness.
