State Comptroller DiNapoli Statement on Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

"The 9/11 attacks united New York, America and nations around the world in a way not seen in decades. We stood together bonded by the knowledge that those who espouse terror, violence and hatred can never win. Our strength is in our resilience and our love of freedom. Today, with our nation seeming more divided than it has been in decades, we should strive to reclaim that sense of unity and shared purpose we held in the aftermath of 9/11. I can think of no better way to honor the men and women who lost their lives.

DiNapoli: New York City's Tech Sector Is Booming

New York state's technology sector is the third largest and among the fastest growing in the nation, adding more than 57,000 jobs since the Great Recession, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The report shows that more than 80 percent of these job gains were located in New York City. The State Comptroller and Mayor de Blasio discussed the report during a tour of Maven, a female-founded digital health clinic for women based in Manhattan.

"The Trump Administration's decision to end DACA today was cruel, immoral and un-American. It is a dark moment in our nation's history. There are 800,000 young people, more than 40,000 of them New Yorkers, who have met the educational requirements and background checks to earn DACA and will be robbed of their opportunity to work and live without fear of deportation. Today's announcement is a call to action for all of us to join with immigrant youth to fight for the DREAM Act and other long term legislative solutions that affirm the value and dignity of the immigrant community.

DiNapoli: Nine Million New Yorkers Employed, Highest Count Since 2008

For the first time since the Great Recession, more than 9.1 million New Yorkers were working in 2016, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. But regional growth remained uneven, with downstate regions experiencing the highest employment growth while most upstate regions saw declines.

NYS Common Retirement Fund Announces Third Quarter Results

The New York State Common Retirement Fund’s (CRF) overall return in the third quarter of state fiscal year 2016-2017 was 1.11 percent for the three-month period ending Dec. 31, 2016, with an estimated value of $186 billion, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Former Treasurer of Patterson Fire Department Sentenced to 33 Months in Prison for Embezzlement and Filing False Tax Returns

Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that ALBERT MELIN, the former treasurer of the volunteer Patterson Fire Department ("PFD"), was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Roman to 33 months in prison for fraud and tax charges arising out of his embezzlement of more than $1.1 million from the PFD.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract and Payment Actions for Jan. 2016

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today his office approved 1,436 contracts valued at $4.53 billion and approved 1.9 million payments worth $10.2 billion in January. His office also rejected 170 contracts and related transactions valued at $2.64 billion and 4,200 payments valued at $2.7 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.
