Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Indictment of NYC Council Member Ruben Wills on Charges He Filed False Disclosures

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the indictment of New York City Council Member Ruben Wills for allegedly filing false documents with the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board. The case is the latest joint investigation under the Operation Integrity partnership of the Attorney General and Comptroller which has resulted in dozens of convictions and more than $6 million in restitution.

Upstate New York Company Delivers $450,000 Investment Gain To The State Pension Fund

The New York State Common Retirement Fund"™s (Fund) investment in Canandaigua-based ClearMomentum has generated a $450,000 investment gain, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today. ClearMomentum is one of hundreds of companies across the state that the Fund invests in through its In-State Private Equity Investment Program. Since its inception, the program has returned nearly $300 million to the Fund.

DiNapoli: Former Treasurer Sentenced in Oakfield Fire Department Theft

Former Oakfield Fire Department treasurer Samantha Hilchey was ordered to pay $16,281 in restitution at her sentencing Monday in Oakfield Town Court. Hilchey created direct withdrawals from the department's account to pay her National Grid, Verizon Wireless and other personal bills before her thefts were revealed by an audit and investigation by the office of New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli: Local Sales Tax Growth Slows

Local sales tax collections in 2014 suffered the slowest annual growth since the end of the 2008-09 recession, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Collections across the state grew by $439 million, or 3 percent, from 2013 to 2014. In 2013, the growth rate was 5.2 percent. New York’s 15-year annual average growth in sales taxes is 4.2 percent.

DiNapoli and Schneiderman Announce Arrest in $87K Contractor Theft

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced the arrest of Department of Health (DOH) contractor George Dunkel for stealing more than $87,000 by padding bills to pay for hotels, education credits and other expenses.

DiNapoli also announced he is rejecting a $133,860 extension of a related contract due to the criminal probe.

DiNapoli: Local Sales Tax Collections Up $739 Million in 2013

Local sales tax collections of $14.9 billion grew by $739 million in 2013, an increase of 5.2 percent from 2012, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The increase outpaced annual growth rates of 3.3 percent in 2012 and 5 percent in 2011, as well as the 15-year annual average growth of 4.5 percent.
