State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli Joins Lawmakers in Applauding New Law to Fight Government Waste

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today thanked Gov. Cuomo and the State Legislature for enacting legislation authored by state Sen. Martin Golden and Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi that enhances the Comptroller's ability to access state data to identify and prevent fraud, waste and abuse.

“New York is in a better position to evaluate Industrial Development Agencies and the projects that receive tax breaks with new reforms now signed into law.

“These measures build upon many of the best practices employed by some IDAs around the state and should reassure taxpayers that private businesses are being adequately scrutinized prior to receiving public support and that communities can recoup benefits if job creation goals are not met.

Comptroller DiNapoli Releases November Cash Report

Total receipts through the first eight months of the fiscal year totaled $95.7 billion, $1.9 billion higher than the Division of the Budget’s latest projections, thanks partly to increased income tax collections, according to the monthly state cash report issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. All Funds spending of $90.9 billion over the period was $278.1 million below projections.

DiNapoli: Bombay Clerk Charged in Theft of Justice Court Fees

A North Country court clerk is accused of pocketing more than $5,400 from the Bombay Justice Court while the other court clerk was absent, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Eric Fleury, 43, of Constable, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a D felony, in Dickinson Town Court. The alleged thefts were uncovered in an audit and investigation by DiNapoli’s office to review the court’s financial operations.

DiNapoli: State Must Improve Oversight of Most Dangerous Sex Offenders

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is not adequately monitoring the state’s most dangerous sex offenders, often failing to make the minimum number of required monthly contacts and not performing mandated curfew checks, according to an audit issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Sentencing of Former Halfmoon Town Supervisor For Stealing Campaign Funds

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the sentencing of Melinda “Mindy” Wormuth, the former town of Halfmoon Supervisor, on state charges for stealing several campaign contributions donated to her campaign fund. The public corruption case arose out of a cooperative federal-state partnership between the State Comptroller, the Attorney General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York.
