Medicaid Audits Find More Than $500 Million in Waste

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s audits identified a total of $513 million in improper Medicaid payments and untapped revenue opportunities over a four-year period, according to a report released today. Auditors identified another $361 million in questionable transactions that will require further review and actions to prevent overpayments or recover costs.

Pension Funds Break New Ground on Board Diversity

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that the New York Common Retirement Fund (Fund) has reached precedent-setting agreements with Monster Beverage Corp. and Standard Pacific Corp. to formally include sexual orientation and gender identity in their considerations when seeking diverse board candidates. Standard Pacific, a California-based homebuilder, is believed to be the first U.S. corporation to include these provisions in its board nominating charter.

DiNapoli: Audit Finds Additional $150,000 Stolen by Beekman Town Official

Former Beekman Comptroller Frederick D. Knapp Jr. pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the second degree Friday in Dutchess County Court after an audit and investigation by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli uncovered a second theft of $150,000 in town funds, following an earlier admission by Knapp of stealing $390,000 while in office.

NYS and NYC Pension Funds To SEC: Greater Disclosure Needed On Risks Faced By Fossil Fuel Industry

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer today called on the Securities and Exchange Commission to compel fossil fuel industry companies — by enforcement or other action — to enhance disclosure of the material risks climate change poses to their business and what steps they are taking to meet those challenges.
