State Comptroller DiNapoli Statement on Selection of Corey Johnson as New York City Council Speaker

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released the following statement today regarding the selection of Corey Johnson as Speaker of the New York City Council.

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Richmond County D.A. Michael E. McMahon: President of Staten Island Special Needs Pre-School and Wife Indicted for Stealing Approximately $771,000 in Public Funds

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon today announced that Dennis Mosesman and Elsie Mosesman have been indicted on charges including Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree for stealing approximately $771,000 in public funds by falsifying business records for The Gingerbread Learning Center, Inc., a pre-school serving special needs children aged three through five years on Staten Island.

DiNapoli Releases East Harlem Economic Snapshot

Economic growth is strong in East Harlem, according to a report released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Over the past 10 years, private sector employment reached a record high and the number of businesses grew by nearly 40 percent. DiNapoli released his Economic Snapshot of East Harlem at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College along with elected and community leaders.

DiNapoli: Neighborhood Banks Helping Stabilize, Revitalize City Communities

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today visited Ridgewood Savings Bank, in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and Spring Bank, in the South Bronx, to highlight the importance of Banking Development Districts (BDDs). The Comptroller's Office has deposited $10 million in state funds in each of the two bank branches.

Comptroller DiNapoli and A.G. Schneiderman Announce Guilty Plea of Former NYC Council Member Ruben Wills

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the guilty plea today of former New York City Councilman Ruben Wills. Wills pleaded guilty to one count of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Pursuant to his plea agreement, Wills admitted he knowingly filed a false annual financial disclosure report with the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board by intentionally failing to disclose personal loans made to him on his disclosure form, as required by law.

New Funding Needed for MTA Improvements to Prevent Unplanned Fare and Toll Hikes

If new funding sources for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) are not identified, the authority may have to raise fares and tolls faster than planned to improve a system that has deteriorated sharply in recent years, according to an analysis of the MTA’s financial plan released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today the unsealing of a one-count indictment charging Jimmie Buie, a resident of Brooklyn, with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony. Jimmie Buie is alleged to have stolen over $23,000 in pension benefits issued by the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System to his deceased mother, Sandra Buie, between May 2011 and December 2012.
