DiNapoli: The Rockaways is on the Rise

The Rockaways neighborhood in Queens experienced record job growth and business sales since Superstorm Sandy, according to a report released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The population has nearly returned to the pre-storm level, but too many homeowners are still in the process of rebuilding.

DiNapoli: Fiscal Stress Remains Low Among Villages

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli's Fiscal Stress Monitoring System has identified 10 villages and two cities in New York in some level of fiscal stress in 2017. The system evaluated all non-calendar year local governments and designated one village and one city in "significant fiscal stress," four villages in "moderate fiscal stress" and five villages and one city as "susceptible to fiscal stress."

Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Felony Charges Against Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas

MT. VERNON – Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the arrest of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas for allegedly stealing campaign funds and lying about money he received from his inaugural committee for personal benefit. Mr. Thomas was arrested on a felony complaint this morning after an investigation that exposed the theft of approximately $12,900 from his campaign committee, and the diversion of over $45,000 from his inaugural committee for personal use and his failure to disclose it.

DiNapoli: Pleasant Valley Town Clerk Charged in Theft of Fees

Pleasant Valley Town Clerk Margaret Hart was charged today for the theft of more than $27,000 which she allegedly stole by pocketing cash deposits instead of depositing them in the clerk’s bank account, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
