DiNapoli: Springport Town Clerk Faces Criminal Charges

Springport Town Clerk Deborah Waldron was arrested today for allegedly trespassing on a town computer to boost her retirement benefits with the New York State and Local Retirement System, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said.

Waldron, 62, a 25-year town employee, was charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the 1st degree, computer trespass and official misconduct, following an investigation by the Comptroller, New York State Police and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s office. Waldron pleaded not guilty and is due back in Aurelius Town Court on June 28.

DiNapoli: Bombay Clerk Sentenced for Pocketing Justice Court Fees

A North Country court clerk was sentenced yesterday for stealing more than $5,680 from Bombay Justice Court while the other court clerk – his mother – was on sick leave, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Eric Fleury, 44, was sentenced in Dickinson Town Court to three years’ probation and ordered to pay full restitution after his February 1 guilty plea to official misconduct. The thefts were uncovered by DiNapoli’s audit and investigation of the court’s financial operations.

State Comptroller DiNapoli Releases Municipal Audits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced his office completed audits of Franklin Square and Munson Fire District, Greater Syracuse Property Development Corporation, Village of Mayfield, Village of Newport and the Wassaic Fire District.

"In today’s fiscal climate, budget transparency and accountability for our local communities is a top priority," said DiNapoli. "By auditing municipal finances and operations, my office continues to provide taxpayers the assurance that their money is being spent appropriately and effectively."

The former treasurer of the Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department was charged today in the alleged theft of more than $11,000 from the fire department over several years, following an investigation by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s office and the Bolivar Police Department which was prompted by a complaint to the Comptroller’s fraud hotline.

DiNapoli: Audits Reveal Millions in Lost Revenue for Local Water Systems

Audits of municipal water systems estimate local governments are losing millions of dollars in revenue due to water loss, inaccurate meters or improper billing, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The report analyzed the results of audits conducted by DiNapoli's office of 161 local government and seven public authority water systems from January 2012 through May 2017.
