New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler Announce Guilty Plea in City of Newburgh Embezzlement Case

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced today that, John Aber, 49, of Staten Island, pleaded guilty before Orange County Court Judge Robert H. Freehill, to grand larceny in the fourth degree, for having stolen money while he was the comptroller of the city of Newburgh. At the time he pleaded guilty, Aber admitted that between August 2013 and December 2016, he used his position as city comptroller to steal money collected from boat-launch fees in the city of Newburgh.

State Comptroller DiNapoli Announces Latest Fiscal Stress Scores

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System has designated 27 municipalities across the state as fiscally stressed. The list, which includes eight counties, eight cities and 11 towns, marks the fewest number of municipalities listed in stress since DiNapoli implemented his early-warning system in 2013.

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli issued a report today detailing regional trends in education funding, enrollment and conditions across the state. The report analyzes school district financial and demographic information from nine separate regions outside of New York City.

DiNapoli to Audit Hempstead IDA, Valley Stream School District in Wake of Controversial Development Project

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced his office will audit the Hempstead Industrial Development Agency and Valley Stream Union Free School District 30. The audits will be conducted in response to multiple requests his office received related to approval of the Green Acres Mall project in Hempstead.

DiNapoli: Former Treasurer Arrested in Village of Millport Theft

Former Village of Millport Treasurer Dawn Haverley was arrested for felony grand larceny Monday after an investigation and audit found she allegedly stole more than $4,000 in public funds, said State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

"Ms. Haverley took advantage of her position and abused the public's trust by pocketing public dollars," said DiNapoli. "I thank Chemung County District Attorney Weeden A. Wetmore and the New York State Police for their diligent work in helping us hold Ms. Haverley accountable."

DiNapoli: Bedford-Stuyvesant is on the Rise

The Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood has experienced strong population, business and job growth in recent years, according to a report released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

"Bedford-Stuyvesant is undergoing an economic resurgence, with record numbers of businesses and jobs, but the benefits have not been shared by all residents," DiNapoli said. "Today's report shows how far Bedford-Stuyvesant has come, but it also shows the challenges that remain."
