DiNapoli Releases Bond Calendar for First Quarter

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced a tentative schedule for the planned bond sales for the state, New York City and their major public authorities during the first quarter of 2020.

The planned sales of $5.39 billion include $4.21 billion of new money and $1.18 billion of refundings and reofferings as follows:

DiNapoli: Read the Fine Print on Your New Gift Card

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers this holiday season to read the fine print on gift cards for details about fees and expiration dates. While some gift cards sellers have eliminated inactivity fees, consumers should still ask whether fees apply. DiNapoli also reminds recipients to spend their new gift cards in a timely manner, otherwise the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds.

State Contract and Payment Actions in November

In November, the Office of the State Comptroller approved 1,411 contracts for state agencies and public authorities valued at $6.4 billion and approved nearly 2.1 million payments worth more than $9.5 billion. The office rejected 139 contracts and related transactions valued at $710 million and nearly 1,400 payments valued at more than $13.9 million. DiNapoli Recovers $42K From Woman Who Stole From State and Local Retirement System

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and the New York State Police announced the sentencing of Bonnie S. Robertson, 63, of Pleasant Valley for stealing nearly $42,000 of her deceased mother’s pension payments.

Robertson pleaded guilty to petit larceny in July and agreed to pay full restitution. She was sentenced to three years of probation.

Mitchell Lama Applicants Charged $200 for Virtually No Chance of Apartment in Their Lifetime

Despite waiting lists for Mitchell Lama apartments being very long and turnover very slow, some developments continued to collect $200 fees from applicants who had virtually no chance of getting an apartment in their lifetime, an audit released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli found.

NYC Surplus Projected to Reach $550 Million in FY 2020

Attorney General Letitia James and Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the jury verdict of the former City of Mount Vernon Corporation Counsel Lawrence Porcari for abusing his position as a public official to engage in a scheme that defrauded the Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply of $365,000 to pay the personal legal expenses of the former Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas and a public relations firm.
