DiNapoli: NYC Metro Transportation Costs Rose 56% Over Past Decade, Slower Than Other Major Areas

Transportation costs for households in the New York City metropolitan area grew by about 56% between 2012-13 and 2022-23, less than in the Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco metropolitan areas according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Transportation made up the second largest cost for New Yorkers, behind housing, at 14% of household spending.

DiNapoli: SED Needs To Improve Oversight of School Districts' English Language Learners Programs

The State Education Department (SED) needs to improve its oversight and work to remove barriers to ensure school districts are providing the required services for students learning English, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The audit examined whether SED was adequately overseeing if school districts outside New York City were providing the required services to English Language Learners (ELLs).
