DiNapoli: Job Creation Increases for IDA Projects

Projects supported by New York’s Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) produced nearly 36,000 additional jobs in 2014, an increase of 18 percent from the prior year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This is DiNapoli's ninth annual report examining the performance of the state's IDAs and how these entities work to attract, retain and expand businesses within their communities.

DiNapoli: Heroin, Opioid Overdose Death Rates Rose Faster in New York Than in Most States

Overdose deaths related to heroin and prescription opioid abuse reached record highs in New York state in 2014, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The overdose death rates in New York increased faster over the preceding decade than in nearly every other state for which data are available.

DiNapoli: Majority of Contracts with Not-For-Profit Organizations Still Approved Late

State agencies were late 61 percent of the time in approving contracts with not-for-profit providers (NFPs) last year, with half of all agencies reporting contracts as late as 90 to 100 percent of the time, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. In 2015, the state paid $129,824 in interest payments for late contracts.

DiNapoli: NYRA's Future Uncertain

The New York Racing Association’s (NYRA) traditional racing operations have generated deficits totaling $109 million over five years and management has yet to develop a formal plan to make these operations profitable, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Auditors also noted questionable expenses, which contributed to NYRA’s racing-related deficits.

DiNapoli: State Pension Fund Value $178.1 Billion

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund) earned a 0.19 percent return on investments in the state fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2016. The Fund’s performance mirrored results in the broader markets during a volatile year. The Fund has an estimated value of $178.1 billion.  

Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Charges Against Florida Resident For Allegedly Stealing Over $148k In NYS Pension Benefits

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today the unsealing of an indictment charging Renee Kanas, 63, a resident of Tamarac, Florida, with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class C felony. Kanas is charged in Albany County Court with stealing over $148,000 in pension payments from the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System paid to her father, Jacob Yudenfreund, a New York State pensioner who died in March 2010.
