Comptroller DiNapoli And A.G. Schneiderman Announce Sentencing of New Jersey Woman in Theft of More Than $162,000 in New York State Pension Benefits

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the sentencing of Linda Miller, 58, of Englewood, N.J., to six months in jail and five years of probation for the theft of more than $162,000 in pension benefits from the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System. Linda Miller continued to cash her mother Josephine Miller's retirement benefits until 2012, despite her mother's death in 2006. Linda Miller pleaded guilty in July 2015 to 3rd degree Grand Larceny, a class D felony, in Albany County Court before the Honorable Thomas A.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract and Payment Actions for May 2016

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today his office approved 1,636 contracts valued at $1.99 billion and approved nearly 2.2 million payments worth nearly $10.3 billion in May.  His office also rejected 176 contracts and related transactions valued at $180 million and more than 2,000 payments valued at nearly $5.7 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.

DiNapoli: Many Homeless Shelters in Poor Condition

Many of the state’s homeless shelters outside New York City are in substandard condition with numerous health and safety issues that need to be addressed immediately, according to a report on homelessness released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. DiNapoli called on state and local officials to improve coordination and respond quickly to improve homeless shelter conditions.

DiNapoli Releases May State Cash Report

New York state collected just over $12 billion in taxes during the first two months of the 2016-17 state fiscal year, a decline of $480.1 million, or 3.8 percent, from the same period last year and nearly $120 million below projections, according to the monthly state cash report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Total receipts, including miscellaneous and federal receipts, declined $808.6 million from a year earlier, primarily because of the lack of settlement revenues and lower Personal Income Tax collections this year.  

New York State Comptroller DiNapoli: Pension Fund Puts Anti-Israel Movement on Notice

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that he has directed the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund) to review its portfolio for any companies involved in the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. DiNapoli and the Fund will take appropriate steps to protect investments from any risk posed by companies that are engaged in BDS activities, including restricting or exiting investments.

DiNapoli: Former Alexandria Town Clerk Pleads Guilty in Theft

Former Alexandria Town Clerk Ellen Peck pleaded guilty yesterday in Jefferson County Court to stealing $26,285 in public funds. Peck pocketed cash paid by residents for fines, fees and surcharges, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

“For years, Ms. Peck violated the trust of her neighbors and stole thousands of dollars,” DiNapoli said. “Hopefully, her conviction will deter others from such corruption. I thank the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office and the State Police for their hard work on this case.”

DiNapoli: CDTA Overtime Expenses and Ridership Growing

The Capital District Transportation Authority’s (CDTA) reported overtime payments accounted for 20 percent of the authority’s total employee compensation in the 2015 fiscal year, more than twice the proportion of other upstate regional transit agencies, amid steady ridership growth in recent years, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
