DiNapoli: 2015 Sales Tax Collections Drop in 30 Counties

Annual local sales tax collections declined in 30 of the 57 counties outside of New York City last year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Total collections across the state grew by 3.6 percent, or $552 million, in 2015 compared to 2014. But the increase was nearly exclusively driven by New York City, which saw an increase of $487 million.

Comptroller DiNapoli and AG Schneiderman Announce Sentencing in Theft of Over $274,000 in State Pension Benefits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced that Marc A. Eletz, 70, a resident of Boca Raton, Florida, was sentenced in Albany County Court to 5 months in jail, $200,000 in restitution and signed a confession of judgment in the amount of $74,920.16 for stealing $274,920.16 in New York State pension benefits. Eletz previously pleaded guilty to the crime of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony, in September 2015.

Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Guilty Plea of Nelson Rivera in Bid-rigging Case

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the guilty plea of Nelson Rivera, the former Chief Information Officer for Monroe County, for working with others to rig the bidding process for multi-million dollar public works contracts in Monroe County. Rivera today entered a guilty plea before The Honorable Dennis M. Kehoe in Monroe County Court to two counts of the class "E" felony charge of Combination in Restraint of Trade and Competition in violation of General Business Law §§ 340 and 341, also known as New York State's Donnelly Act.

Comptroller DiNapoli Releases State Audits

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA): Bus Driver Licensing (Follow-Up) (2015-F-13)

An initial report issued in June 2013, determined that the majority of MTA bus drivers sampled met the requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. However, seven of the 142 drivers sampled did not meet the requirements, but were allowed to drive buses transporting an estimated 8,400 passengers on a total of 38 days.

DiNapoli: MTA Financial Outlook Improved

The outlook for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) budget has improved considerably over the past year thanks to the economic recovery as well as low energy costs and interest rates, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli Announces Latest Fiscal Stress Scores

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System has designated 40 municipalities across the state as fiscally stressed. This includes 10 counties, 10 cities and 20 towns. This is the fourth year DiNapoli’s office has evaluated the financial stability of local governments. 

DiNapoli Releases August State Cash Report

State tax collections through August dropped by $898 million, or 3 percent, from the same period last year to a total of $28.9 billion, according to the state cash report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
