DiNapoli Audit: OGS Veteran-Owned Business Program Off to Good Start

The state Office of General Services (OGS) has made substantial progress establishing New York’s Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOB) program in a short time and the program would benefit from the adoption of a comprehensive statewide plan for implementation, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. 

DiNapoli Releases Lower Manhattan Economic Snapshot

The terror attacks on September 11, 2001 killed 2,753 people in Lower Manhattan, leaving the nation devastated and Lower Manhattan struggling to rebuild. Fifteen years later, Lower Manhattan continues to recover as it evolves into a neighborhood that is increasingly residential, young and family-oriented and supports an influx of tourism and shopping, according to an economic snapshot released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. 

Comptroller DiNapoli and A.G. Schneiderman Announce Arrest of Florida Man for Theft of Over $180,000 in NYS Pension Benefits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today the unsealing of an indictment charging Robert J. Schusteritsch, 71, of Florida, with the crimes of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class C felony, and Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor, in Albany County Court. Schusteritsch is alleged to have stolen over $180,000 in pension benefits issued by the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System to his deceased brother, Martin Petschauer, between July 2008 and September 2015. 

DiNapoli: Pension Contribution Rates Remain Stable for Fiscal Year 2017-18

Employer contribution rates for the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) will stay virtually the same in Fiscal Year 2017-18 compared to Fiscal Year 2016-17, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today.

The average contribution rate for the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) will decrease from 15.5 percent of payroll to 15.3 percent of payroll. The average contribution rate for the Police and Fire Retirement System (PFRS) will increase to 24.4 percent from 24.3 percent of payroll. 

Comptroller DiNapoli and A.G. Schneiderman Announce Sentencing of Former Met Council Insurance Brokers

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced that Solomon Ross and William Lieber, former insurance brokers for the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty (“Met Council”), each have been sentenced to five years of probation and will each pay $1.5 million in restitution to Met Council. As part of their sentence, they will also surrender their broker’s licenses to the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Comptroller DiNapoli and A.G. Schneiderman Announce Sentencing in $200,000 Fraud on Long Island

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the sentencing of Charles Angelillo, 41, of Eastport, for his role in a conspiracy to defraud the state of over $200,000 by submitting false invoices over a two year period for HVAC equipment, supplies, and labor.

DiNapoli Appoints Top Retirement System Staff

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has named Colleen Crawford Gardner as Executive Deputy Comptroller and Melanie Whinnery as Deputy Comptroller of the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS). 

DiNapoli: MTA Faces $9.8 Billion Capital Plan Shortfall

Whether the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will be able to limit future fare and toll increases to 4 percent as planned will depend on the amount of capital funding made available by New York state and New York City, and whether the economy continues to grow without interruption as anticipated by the MTA, according to a report released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. 

DiNapoli: Former Wallkill Fire District Chair Pleads Guilty in $240,000 Theft

The former chairman of the Wallkill Fire District’s Board of Fire Commissioners pleaded guilty today in Ulster County Court to grand larceny and criminal tax fraud for stealing nearly $240,000, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright announced.

“This chairman hoodwinked his own Fire District, and others failed to double-check his actions,” DiNapoli said. ”I thank District Attorney Carnright for partnering with my office to expose this scheme and hold this official accountable.”
