DiNapoli: Scores Reveal Fiscal Stress Continues for Certain Communities

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System has designated 44 municipalities across the state as fiscally stressed, this includes 12 counties, 11 cities and 21 towns. For the third consecutive year DiNapoli’s office has evaluated the financial stability of local governments and has identified 70 municipalities in fiscal stress at least once during this period. 

DiNapoli: MTA's Plan to Pull Trash Cans Didn't Make Stations Cleaner

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's controversial, and seemingly counterintuitive, experiment to reduce exposed trash and rats in subway stations by getting rid of trash receptacles showed little evidence of success, according to an audit released by his office today. 

DiNapoli Honored with National Leadership Award

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli received the William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award from the Association of Government Accountants at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The award is given annually to state government professionals who exemplify and promote excellence in government financial management.

DiNapoli: Audit Finds Inadequate Oversight of Student Grade Changes

Student grades in five school districts were changed from failing to passing without proper documentation or supporting information, according to an audit issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The audit examined the computer and software systems that tracked, recorded and maintained student grades in the Arlington, Elmira, Fairport, Freeport and Saratoga Springs school districts.

DiNapoli Releases August Cash Report

Total receipts through the first five months of the state fiscal year were $59.9 billion, $609 million higher than the state Division of the Budget’s August projections, according to the monthly state cash report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. All Funds spending totaling $54.9 billion over the period was $473.2 million below projections.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract and Payment Actions for August 2015

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today his office approved 1,821 contracts valued at $1.9 billion and approved 1.7 million payments worth $8.5 billion in August. His office also rejected 191 contracts and related transactions valued at $713 million and nearly 1,600 payments valued at $61.6 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.

DiNapoli Announces $1.2 Billion in New Commitments to State Pension Fund's Emerging Manager Program

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today that the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund) has committed an additional $1.2 billion to its emerging manager program, increasing the total commitment to more than $5 billion. The program is designed to help diversify the Fund’s investments and expand its pool of investors. DiNapoli made the announcement at the Fund’s eighth annual Emerging Manager Conference.
