DiNapoli: Audit Cites East Clinton Fire District For Improper Gifts

Officials in Dutchess County’s East Clinton Fire District improperly paid nearly $35,000 in personal expenses for members, including rent, cable television and college fees, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The findings of the Comptroller’s audit and investigation were referred to Dutchess County District Attorney William V. Grady.

Wall Street Bonuses Rose In 2012

Cash bonuses paid to New York City securities industry employees are forecast to rise by 8 percent to $20 billion during this year’s bonus season, according to an estimate released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract and Payment Actions for November

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today his office approved 1,506 contracts valued at $2.27 billion and approved more than 2.9 million payments worth nearly $9.9 billion in November. His office also rejected 173 contracts and related transactions valued at $611 million and nearly 1,300 payments valued at more than $3.6 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.

DiNapoli Releases November State Cash Report

State tax collections through November declined $1.1 billion, or 2.4 percent, from the same period last year, according to the state cash report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Year-to-date tax collections of nearly $45.2 billion were $23.3 million higher than the latest projections included in the mid-year update to the Financial Plan. The state also received $273 million in new monetary settlements in November.

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today reminded New Yorkers that contributions to a New York State 529 College Savings Program account are tax deductible*.

New York’s 529 College Savings Program is an investment tool designed to help parents save for college. Contributions made by Dec. 31 can provide up to $10,000 in state tax deductions on 2016 income tax filings. Parents and other participants have paid for more than $1.1 billion in college-related expenses through the program since Jan. 1.
