Comptroller DiNapoli & Manhattan U.S. Attorney Announce $2.95 Million Settlement With Hospital Group For Improperly Delaying Repayment of Medicaid Funds

Lampert, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (“HHS-OIG”), Eric Schneiderman, New York State Attorney General, and Thomas P. DiNapoli, the New York State Comptroller, today announced a $2,950,000 settlement of a civil fraud lawsuit against Beth Israel Medical Center d/b/a Mount Sinai Beth Israel (“Beth Israel”), St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center d/b/a Mount Sinai St.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract and Payment Actions for July 2016

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today his office approved 1,462 contracts valued at $1.72 billion and approved more than 1.7 million payments worth nearly $6.3 billion in July.  His office also rejected 167 contracts and related transactions valued at $370 million and 1,183 payments valued at more than $5.1 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.

DiNapoli Releases July State Cash Report

State tax collections totaled $24.2 billion over the first four months of the state fiscal year (SFY), a drop of $1.1 billion, or 4.4 percent, from the same period last year, according to the July state cash report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Tax collections through July were $21.8 million over the Executive’s latest projections from earlier this month. However, collections are more than $500 million below initial projections, primarily due to lower than expected personal income tax (PIT) collections.

DiNapoli: Two Western NY BOCES Holding Millions in Surplus Funds

The Cattaraugus-Allegany-Erie-Wyoming and Orleans/Niagara Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) withheld millions of dollars in surplus funds that should have been refunded to local school districts, according to separate audits issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

“Excessive amounts of money can sit unused or in unauthorized reserve funds because of flawed budget practices,” DiNapoli said. “Moving forward, BOCES officials need to be more accurate and more transparent with their budgeting.”

NYS Common Retirement Fund Announces First Quarter Results

The New York State Common Retirement Fund’s (Fund) overall return in the first quarter of the state fiscal year 2016-2017 was 2 percent for the three-month period ending June 30, 2016, with an estimated value of $181 billion, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

“We’ve been able to make some slight gains despite markets that remain challenging,” DiNapoli said. “Fortunately, we’re long-term investors and remain well-funded as we navigate ongoing market fluctuations.”

Comptroller DiNapoli & A.G. Schneiderman Announce Arrest of Arizona Man For Theft of Over $100,000 in NYS Pension Benefits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the unsealing of an indictment charging John H. Eydeler III, 66, a resident of Glendale, Arizona, with grand larceny in the second degree, a class C felony. Eydeler is alleged to have stolen over $100,000 in pension payments from the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System intended for his deceased mother, Dorothy Eydeler, a retired nurse who died in October of 1998.

DiNapoli: Millions in NYC Transit Fines and Fees Uncollected

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that an audit of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s New York City Transit division found it did not collect more than $13 million in fines and fees — nearly half of those owed to it — issued between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 6, 2015. Not adequately enforcing NYC Transit violations has cost tens of millions more over the years.
