DiNapoli: MTA Faces Its Greatest Challenges in Decades

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has been slow to reverse the deterioration in service and its financial plan entails considerable risk, according to an analysis released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli: NYC Tax Collections Stronger Than Anticipated

New York City is projecting a surplus of $3.5 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2019, which it plans to use to help balance the $92.5 billion proposed 2020 budget, but tax collections continue to exceed expectations. Clark today announced the guilty plea of Earnestine Russell to grand larceny in the third degree for stealing grant money from a state-administered, federally-funded grant to support after-school programs for middle school children. Russell was sentenced to one year in jail and must pay back $61,098.
