DiNapoli Urges New Yorkers to Spend Holiday Gift Cards

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend the gift cards they received this holiday season in a timely fashion. If not, the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds. In the last seven years, the amount returned to DiNapoli’s office in unused gift cards has risen sharply from $5.8 million in 2014 to $16 million in 2021.

DiNapoli Calls on Twitter & Other Major Corporations to Take Action on Political Spending Transparency

On the one-year anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund), announced today the filing of eight shareholder proposals requesting companies to comprehensively disclose their political spending. The Comptroller has filed disclosure proposals with: Twitter Inc., DISH Network Corp., The Progressive Corp., Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Las Vegas Sands Corp., Ulta Beauty Inc., VeriSign Inc., and Hanesbrands Inc.

New York City Restaurant, Retail and Recreation Sectors Still Face Uphill Recovery

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, many businesses in retail trade, restaurant, and arts, entertainment and recreation closed. This report examines the damage the pandemic has inflicted on those sectors, and considers the distribution of federal funds for businesses in the City, particularly for businesses in low- and moderate-income communities and in historically underutilized business zones.

DiNapoli: NYC’s Restaurant, Retail and Recreation Sectors Continue to Struggle During Pandemic

New York City’s restaurant, retail and recreation (RRR) sectors continued to struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic, even before the latest surge in cases, with 169,700 fewer jobs in November than from two years ago, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The losses accounted for 41% of total private sector jobs lost in the city during the pandemic.
