DiNapoli: NYC Retail Sector Battered by Pandemic
The retail sector, one of New York City’s biggest employers, is having an uneven recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with “non-essential” retailers struggling but online sellers booming, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
State Contract and Payment Actions in October
In October, the Office of the State Comptroller approved 1,469 contracts for state agencies and public authorities valued at $44.7 billion and approved nearly 12.4 million payments worth nearly $12.4 billion. The office rejected 112 contracts and related transactions valued at $2.2 billion and nearly 7,800 payments valued at more than $21.7 million, primarily for mistakes, insufficient support for charges, and improper payments. DiNapoli: Former Potter Town Clerk Arrested for Theft of Nearly $24,000
State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Yates County District Attorney Todd Casella, and Yates County Sherriff Ronald Spike announced the arrest of Julie Brown, former clerk of the Town of Potter.
Brown, 49, was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing nearly $24,000 in cash payments to the town. The thefts allegedly took place between January 1, 2018, and May 21, 2019.

DiNapoli: Feds Must Step Up or NYC Metro Region Faces End of Public Transit As We Know It
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released the following statement today in response to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s release of its November budget and financial plan:
“Our regional transit system is on the edge of a precipice. Without a significant infusion of federal funds, the region faces service cuts in 2021 that would change public transit as we know it. It’s too late for federal help to assist the MTA this year, forcing it to borrow almost $3 billion to get through 2020 and saddling it with even more debt in the coming years.
