DiNapoli: Audit Recommends Labor Department Step Up Investigations of Violations in NYC

Weaknesses in how the state Department of Labor (DOL) investigates labor law violations in New York City have led to significant delays in holding violators accountable and attaining restitution for workers while allowing infractions to continue, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

A report released today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli examines the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) latest 20-Year Needs Assessment, reviews the depth of work needed to upgrade New York’s regional transit systems and highlights the urgent need for the MTA to state its priorities and funding plans.

A Review of Capital Needs at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority

In October 2023, the MTA issued its latest 20 Year Needs Assessment (TYNA), which provides an unrestrained view of the capital needs of the system. This report from the Comptroller’s office examines the TYNA, reviews the depth of work needed to upgrade New York’s regional transit and highlights the urgent need for the MTA to state its priorities and funding plans as early as it can.

Fiscal Stress Monitoring System – School Districts: Fiscal Year 2022-23 Results

This snapshot highlights the Fiscal Stress Monitoring System (FSMS) results for school districts that reported for school fiscal year (SY) 2022-23, which ended on June 30, 2023. Increases to federal pandemic relief aid and the State fully funding foundation aid kept many districts out of a stress designation. For SY 2022-23, sixteen school districts were designated as being in stress—the second-lowest number since the system was created. The report also includes a look at districts that have been chronically stressed over the eleven years since FSMS began.

DiNapoli: 16 School Districts Designated in Fiscal Stress

Sixteen school districts were designated in some level of fiscal stress under New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System for the school year (SY) ending June 30, 2023, up from 14 districts in fiscal stress the prior year, but still well below the 33 designated in stress in 2019. Increased temporary federal aid and growth in state aid have contributed to the declining number of school districts designated in fiscal stress.

DiNapoli: Livingston County Woman Arrested for Theft of Deceased Mother's Pension Payments

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Livingston County District Attorney Gregory J. McCaffrey, and the New York State Police today announced the arrest of Patricia Chatley, 59, of Nunda, New York for allegedly stealing over $34,500 of her mother’s public pension payments after she died in January of 2020.

DiNapoli Files Shareholder Proposals with Six Companies on Political Spending

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund), announced the filing of shareholder proposals at six portfolio companies requesting they comprehensively disclose their political spending. DiNapoli filed the disclosure proposals with Airbnb Inc., DoorDash Inc., Caesars Entertainment Inc., SoFi Technologies Inc., Charter Communications Inc., and DraftKings Inc.
