DiNapoli: Bradford Fire Company Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Stealing $8,500 in Public Funds

Former Bradford Volunteer Fire Company treasurer Sherry Hamilton pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree after an audit and investigation found she misappropriated approximately $8,500 in fire company funds, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today.

DiNapoli’s office worked with the New York State Police and Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker. Their joint efforts discovered Hamilton misappropriated funds by taking "advance" payments on company activities and manipulating company records to conceal her crimes. She was arrested in July 2016.

DiNapoli: Office Has $14.5 Billion in Unclaimed Funds; Urges New Yorkers to Claim Lost Money

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that his office has over $14.5 billion in unclaimed funds and urged New Yorkers to see if any of it belongs to them. In State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2015-16, DiNapoli’s office set a national record for the third consecutive year for the most unclaimed funds returned in one year totaling $452 million.

DiNapoli: Village Fiscal Stress Declines Again

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli's Fiscal Stress Monitoring System has identified nine villages in New York in some level of fiscal stress in 2016. Three villages were designated in "moderate fiscal stress" and six as "susceptible to fiscal stress." Last year, a total of 18 villages were listed in fiscal stress.

DiNapoli Announces New $7 Million Investment in Northern Ireland

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the New York State Common Retirement Fund (Fund) is investing $7 million (£5 million) in Northern Ireland through the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Growth Fund (NI). The fund, managed by Kernel Capital, was established in 2013 by Invest Northern Ireland and Bank of Ireland to assist Northern Ireland based SMEs to accelerate growth.

New York State Comptroller DiNapoli Statement on Win at SEC

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, as Trustee of New York State Common Retirement Fund, and the Church of England co-filed a shareholder proposal at ExxonMobil in December, asking the company to assess how the worldwide effort to rein in global warming would impact its business. In response, ExxonMobil sought clearance from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to block DiNapoli’s proposal from a shareholders' vote at its annual meeting. Today, the SEC rejected that request.

DiNapoli: Five Fortune 500 Companies Reach Agreements on Corporate Political Spending

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that five Fortune 500 companies – Coca-Cola Enterprises, Raytheon, Waste Management, Union Pacific and Centerpoint Energy – have agreed to the New York State Common Retirement Fund’s (Fund) request that they publicly report all direct and indirect corporate political spending.

As a result of the agreement, the Fund withdrew shareholder proposals it had filed for consideration at each company’s annual stockholders’ meeting.
