When Employees Retire

In January, NYSLRS will release a new Accrued Payments and Leave Credits page in Retirement Online, which will replace the paper form. We will also update the Retirement Online notifications to provide a link directly to the employee’s Accrued Payments and Leave Credits page.

Receiving accurate, timely final payment and service information when your employees retire is critical to calculating their pension benefits. The new page will provide an online form allowing you to quickly and easily submit your employees’ information electronically. It will also help NYSLRS finalize your employees’ pension benefits sooner and will result in more accurate billing information for your employer location.

What You Need to Do

Complete Required Activities

At least one person from each employer location code is required to watch the instructional video about the Accrued Payments and Leave Credits page by January 20, 2026.

Then, complete the survey to notify NYSLRS that your location has completed the required activity. The link to the survey is in the video description.

Ensure You Can Access the New Page and Receive Notifications

Contact and Security Administrators: Please review and update contact information and security roles for individuals at your organization who need to submit retiree information to NYSLRS.

To access the Accrued Payments and Leave Credits page, you need one of the following security roles:

  • Payroll
  • Personnel
  • Employer Reporting Submitter
  • Employer Reporting Uploader

Note: Employer Reporting Security Roles are not applicable to State agencies, as the functionality is accounted for by Payroll Services processing.

To receive Retirement Online notifications when your employees retire, you must have either:

  • The Personnel Contact Type and the Personnel Security Role; or
  • The Payroll Contact Type and one of the following security roles:
    • Payroll
    • Personnel
    • Employer Reporting Submitter
    • Employer Reporting Uploader

After the new page is released, NYSLRS will no longer accept the paper form. Therefore, we are committed to preparing you for this upcoming change, and we will provide a variety of materials to accommodate different learning preferences.
