Employer Contributions and Rates

Annual Contributions and Types of Invoices

Employer Contributions and Rates

Employer contributions support the benefits earned by current and future retirees and are an important asset of the Common Retirement Fund.

Your required contributions are invoiced annually and are calculated using:

  • The employees’ earnings reported to NYSLRS by your organization during the most recently completed State Fiscal Year (April 1–March 31);* and
  • The employer contribution rates for the retirement plans and optional benefits you offer.

* For more information, visit the Fiscal Year Earnings and Prior Years’ Adjustments page.

Types of Invoices

Projected Invoice (September)

Shortly after employer contribution rates are issued, NYSLRS provides a projected invoice as a budgeting tool for next year’s invoice due approximately 17 months later.

Because employees’ earnings have not yet been reported for the State fiscal year, your projected invoice is calculated using your employees’ anticipated earnings.

Estimated Invoice (July)

NYSLRS provides an estimated invoice which approximates your current year’s invoice due approximately seven months later.

Your estimated invoice is calculated using reported earnings from the most recently completed State fiscal year and the contribution rates for that fiscal year.

Annual Invoice (November)

In November, NYSLRS provides your final annual invoice, which is due approximately three months later on February 1.

Your annual invoice is calculated using reported earnings from the most recently completed State fiscal year and the contribution rates for that fiscal year.

Note: Because your projected invoice is calculated using anticipated earnings and your estimated invoice and annual invoice are calculated using reported earnings, your projected invoice may not match your estimated or annual invoice.
