Creditable Service

20-Year (Section 383-e) and 25-Year (Section 383-f) Plans
For PFRS Tier 1, 2, 3 (Article 11), 5 and 6 Members

Credit for Service in Other Titles

In addition to the titles covered by these plans, service in the following titles is creditable toward the 20 years (Section 383-e) or 25 years (Section 383-f) required for a service retirement benefit:

New York Waterfront Commission Police Officer*
State Trooper with the New York State Police*
State University Peace Officer
Police officer or member of a police force or department for:
- A State park authority or commission
- An organized police force or department of a county, city, town, village, police district, authority or other participating employer
Member of the Capital Police Force in the Office of General Services
New York City Police Officer (service is transferrable from the New York City Police Pension Fund)
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Officer (service is transferrable from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Pension Fund)

Military service in the U.S. Armed Forces, as specified by law, is also creditable towards your pension.

*The 2026-27 New York State Budget enacted in May 2026 added these titles as eligible for service credit.

Service in the following titles is not creditable toward retirement benefits for these plans:
