Payroll Manual

Hospital Duty Pay

Hospital-duty pay is additional compensation payable to an employee who occupies a position in the Institutional Services Unit (NU 04) who is assigned to care for and safeguard the well being of a client of a State facility who is hospitalized at a location which is further than ½ hour travel time from the employee’s normal work facility.

The additional compensation for general hospital duty is 15% (.15) of the employee’s normal work-day rate, including any differentials for location and shift pay that the employee is receiving, and is not included as salary for retirement purposes.

If an employee renders overtime services during a payroll period when he or she is entitled to hospital-duty pay, the amount of hospital duty pay must be factored into the calculation of the overtime rate.
